Recommended .45 Caliber Projectiles for the ENDURA™ Muzzleloader
Posted by CVA on Sep 2nd 2025
Choosing the right muzzleloader projectile is one of the most important factors in achieving long-range accuracy, consistent performance, and ethical hunting results. The CVA ENDURA™ was developed with precision shooting in mind, and the company has conducted extensive testing to determine which bullets deliver the best balance of accuracy, velocity, and terminal performance.
Below is the official guidance from the ENDURA owner’s manual, along with extra insight to help you choose the right projectile for your shooting needs.
RECOMMENDED .45 CALIBER PROJECTILES FOR THE ENDURA
During the development of the ENDURA, numerous combinations of projectiles, projectile weights, propellants, volumes of propellants, etc. were assessed. Based on these tests, the bullets specified below are recommended for hunting and/or target shooting.
Of all bullets evaluated, CVA has concluded that the PowerBelt ELR 285-grain bullet, which was developed specifically for use in long-range muzzleloaders, offers the best combination of accuracy, ease-of-use, terminal performance, and affordability. It is therefore CVA’s most highly recommended projectile for the Endura .45.
Some of CVA’s competitive long-range shooters have also reported success with certain “bullet to bore” or “bore rider” bullets. The most highly rated amongst this class of bullets are the Parker Black Max™ 275-grain (CVA Version) and the Pittman AccuMax™ 275-grain.
For best accuracy performance, as well as safety, bullet weights should not exceed 300 grains for the .45 caliber Endura.
WARNING: Saboted bullets should NEVER be used in the CVA Endura, as the high velocities will cause the plastic to melt in the bore. Also, the diameters of some sabots may be too large for the bore of the Endura, potentially causing dangerous overpressure.
Choosing the Right ENDURA™ Bullet for Accuracy and Performance
The PowerBelt® ELR™ 285-grain bullet stands out as CVA’s top recommendation for the ENDURA due to its high ballistic coefficient, long-range stability, and consistent expansion on game. Its elongated profile and precision engineering make it an excellent choice for hunters looking to stretch their effective range while maintaining terminal performance for ethical kills.
Competitive muzzleloader shooters have also seen success with “bullet to bore” options like the Parker Black Max™ 275-grain and Pittman AccuMax™ 275-grain, both known for exceptional consistency and grouping potential. These bullets load directly into the bore without a sabot, which helps ensure a tighter seal and more consistent ignition.
Staying within the 300-grain weight limit is critical for safety and performance. Heavier bullets can increase chamber pressure and affect trajectory. Likewise, saboted bullets should never be used in the ENDURA due to the extreme velocities produced & the potential plastic material that can be left in the bore.
Final Thoughts
For hunters and shooters seeking maximum long-range accuracy, pairing these recommended bullets with proper powder measurement, clean bore practices, and consistent primer selection will yield the best results. By following CVA’s bullet recommendations and avoiding sabots, you’ll ensure both safety and top-tier accuracy. This approach lets you take full advantage of the ENDURA’s design, whether you’re competing on the range or taking long shots in the field.
